Pembina Pipeline Corp. agreed to acquire Kinder Morgan Inc. subsidiary Kinder Morgan Canada Ltd. and the U.S. portion of the Cochin pipeline system for about C$4.35 billion.

"We are taking a different approach to the Permian ... leveraging the scale of this corporation. … We're doing it at scale, which obviously a lot of the small players wouldn't have the capacity to do," said Exxon Mobil Corp. Vice President of Investor Relations and Secretary Neil Hansen, as his company plots a series of moves to integrate its operations in Texas and New Mexico.

* The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued a request for proposals for up to 2,000 MW of offshore wind power, as required by a newly enacted law mandating that capacity procurement by 2030.

* Three Democratic lawmakers are criticizing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its plan to change procedures to resolve challenges to federal pollution permits, saying it would threaten human health and the environment.

* North Carolina lawmakers voted Aug. 20 to amend a Duke Energy Corp.-backed bill to study the effects of using multiyear rate plans and a proposed rate mechanism.

* As recent battery fires have highlighted the risks associated with lithium-ion battery systems, Tesla Inc., one of the most prominent builders and distributors of energy storage systems, has stepped up its public support for the technology.

* In a related news, Walmart Inc. is suing Tesla over solar-related rooftop fires at its stores.

* Sen. Bernie Sanders, a presidential hopeful, plans to unveil his climate plan on Aug. 22, The Hill in Washington, D.C., reported.

* New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu vetoed a bill that aimed to alter the use of proceeds from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported.

Natural gas

* Venture Global LNG announced it had made a formal final investment decision to build its Calcasieu Pass LNG export project in Louisiana.

* Michigan regulators have ordered DTE Gas Co. to return $333 million to customers to reflect the impact of lower federal corporate tax rates on the company's long-term investments.

* Columbia Gas Transmission LLC received authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to place a portion of its natural gas pipeline replacement project into service in Maryland.

* The Kentucky Public Service Commission fined Johnson County Gas Co. Inc. and B&H Gas Co. $107,500 for issuing unauthorized debt in connection with their dismissed rate cases.

* Indianola Energy LLC secured a $100 million equity commitment from members of its management team and a Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors LP-managed fund to pursue its upstream strategy.

* Royal Dutch Shell PLC sold all its indirect stake in India's Mahanagar Gas Ltd. as part of its ongoing portfolio optimization.

Oil

* The Alberta government has decided to extend oil production curtailment to Dec. 31, 2020. Starting October, the base limit for curtailment will increase to 20,000 barrels per day from 10,000 barrels per day.

* Saudi Arabian Oil Co.'s cash flow generation and net cash position could support new acquisitions that support vertical integration, even after the company's deal for a 70% stake in Saudi Basic Industries Corp. and reported negotiations for a slice of Reliance Industries Ltd.'s refining and petrochemicals business, Fitch Ratings said.

* A minority stake in an offshore oil project in Guyana has helped Hess Corp. become the top performing U.S. oil company stock in 2019, The Wall Street Journal reported.

* Bankrupt refiner Philadelphia Energy Solutions LLC has started layoffs of its unionized workforce ahead of the initial deadline, according to Reuters.

* Hibernia Management And Development Co. Ltd. is tackling another oil spill on the Hibernia oil platform in Newfoundland that occurred Aug. 17.

* MDM Permian Inc. has decided to completely shut down all its activities in the Illinois Basin, including abandoning its Kincaid #1 oil well location and leases.

* Lotus Midstream LLC is considering reversing the flow of its West Texas to Cushing, Okla., pipeline, Reuters reported, citing three people familiar with the matter.

Coal

* U.S. mine safety officials are not adequately evaluating whether monetary penalties are effective at reducing fatal or permanent accidents across the nation's mines, according to an audit from the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Inspector General released Aug. 20.

* A subsidiary of Rhino Energy LLC entered into an agreement with Blackjewel LLC to purchase three underground coal mines in Virginia, according to a filing by Rhino Resource Partners LP.
