Wollongong Coal Ltd. has been forced to suspend operations at its Wongawilli coal mine in New South Wales, Australia, after one of its mining contractors was placed in administration, according to a June 2 news release.
SBD Services Pty. Ltd., a subsidiary of Delta SBD, has stood down its workforce, which includes workers at the Wongawilli operation.
On May 31, John McInerney and Said Jahani of Grant Thornton were appointed administrators.
Wollongong Coal said it is in talks with the administrators in the hope of getting the contract workforce at the Wongawilli mine reinstated.
