Toyota Motor Corp. on Aug. 23 said it will roll out 2,700 commercially available vehicles for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Japanese carmaker plans to electrify nearly 90% of the fleet, which will include 500 fuel cell electric vehicles and 850 fully electric vehicles.
Emissions from the fleet will fall below 80 g/km, or about half a 2,700-vehicle fleet would normally emit if it were powered by diesel or gasoline, Toyota said.
The fleet is part of the 3,700 mobility products and vehicles Toyota is providing for the event. The company is also providing Toyota Safety Sense and Lexus Safety systems, emergency braking, and Intelligent Clearance Sonar sensors, as well as other vehicles like mass-transit buses, assistive vehicles to aid passengers with wheelchairs, and fuel cell-powered forklifts.
