JD.com Inc. said March 16 that it partnered with Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd to make JD's smart home platform, Alpha, a part of Geely's 2018 Boyue SUV.
The collaboration enables Boyue SUV drivers to use the Alpha platform to remotely control over 1,000 smart home devices and to buy items online via a "one-click e-commerce experience." The connected car solution also offers location services, vehicle management, data analysis and voice control. JD said that the partnership will enable users to control their cars remotely and access "on-board" e-commerce features. Using JD's Alpha platform, users will be able to check the status of their cars, and control heating and air conditioning remotely.
The team-up marks JD.com's debut in the connected car market.
JD also recently announced the expansion of its car parts and services business using its e-commerce dominance in China.
