Lower 48 natural gas storage operators put a net 84 Bcf into their facilities in the week ending Sept. 13, above the five-year-average injection of 82 Bcf, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported.
The injection, which topped the 76-Bcf build forecast by an S&P Global Platts analyst survey, brought total working gas supply in the Lower 48 to 3,103 Bcf, or 393 Bcf above the year-ago level and 75 Bcf below the five-year average.
By region:
* In the East, inventories grew 24 Bcf on the week at 763 Bcf, 8% above a year ago.
* In the Midwest, storage levels grew 34 Bcf at 898 Bcf, 17% above a year ago.
* In the Mountain region, storage levels climbed 5 Bcf at 188 Bcf, 11% above the year before.
* In the Pacific region, stockpiles were up 4 Bcf at 279 Bcf, 10% more than a year ago.
* In the South Central region, storage levels grew 16 Bcf at 974 Bcf, 19% more than a year ago.
Of that total, 200 Bcf of gas was in salt cavern facilities and 774 Bcf was in non-salt-cavern facilities. Working gas stocks were up 1% in salt cavern facilities from the week before and gained 2.0% in non-salt-cavern facilities.
