Barrick Gold Corp. said May 29 that it began a formal dialogue process with the striking union at the Veladero gold mine in Argentina, ending the work stoppage that commenced May 28.
The company earlier said that talks were underway to resolve the strike. Over 700 striking workers were demanding better labor and safety conditions.
Barrick anticipates resuming normal leaching activities at Veladero in the second half of June, subject to approval from San Juan regulatory and judicial authorities.
Leaching activities have been restricted since March 29, after a pipe carrying processing solution at the mine's heap leach facility failed.
