Mazda Motor Corp. said May 11 that it appointed Akira Marumoto as president and CEO to succeed Masamichi Kogai, who will become the Japanese automaker's new chairman.
Marumoto has been serving as an executive vice president of Mazda, overseeing operations in the Americas and administrative domain.
Kogai will replace Seita Kanai, who is set to retire as chairman.
The new appointments are among several changes to Mazda's executive team. The company also appointed Kiyoshi Fujiwara as a new representative director and Akira Koga as a director.
Fujiwara was also named an executive vice president to oversee operations in North America as well as research and development, while Koga will remain as senior managing executive officer, overseeing corporate planning and heading global IT solutions.
All appointments will take effect June 26, following Mazda's annual meeting of shareholders.
