WPG Resources Ltd. said April 3 that drilling is underway at the Challenger Deeps area of its Challenger gold mine in South Australia in anticipation of mining activities set to begin later this year.
Challenger Deeps is below the 215 shear, where limited mine development has been completed. The area was not mined by previous owners due to its proximity to the boundary of Challenger's mining lease, but WPG's new adjacent mining lease allows the company to mine down plunge.
Drilling will test the M1 and M2 lodes immediately below the 215 shear and will also target the Challenger West lode, which has not been drilled below the 215 shear. The program aims to help with planning mining activities and to increase existing resources and reserves.
The first phase of the program is expected to take about six weeks, with results to be used in planning initial mining activities at Challenger Deeps.
