Twitter CEO: New rules on hate speech, violence in a few weeks

Twitter Inc. CEO Jack Dorsey said the company has decided to take a "more aggressive stance" on its rules and their enforcement and will roll out new rules on hate speech, violence and unwanted sexual advances "in the next few weeks."

Dorsey's tweets came amid criticism of the social media platform's handling of actress Rose McGowan's Twitter account after she posted tweets related to sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein, Bloomberg News reported Oct. 14. A group of celebrities boycotted Twitter after it briefly suspended McGowan's account.

"Today we saw voices silencing themselves and voices speaking out because we're *still* not doing enough," Dorsey said. "We've been working intensely over the past few months and focused today on making some critical decisions."

In response to this, the company will be rolling out new rules related to "unwanted sexual advances, non-consensual nudity, hate symbols, violent groups, and tweets that glorifies violence," he added.
