Australian government suspends ads from YouTube

The global boycott of Google Inc.'s YouTube ads gained more traction in Australia as the country's government said March 31 that it is suspending "all noncorporate campaign advertising" from the Alphabet Inc. unit's video-sharing platform.

Australian Senator Scott Ryan's website said the decision was based on the advice of the government's media agency, Dentsu Mitchell, which is also the flagship PR agency of the Dentsu Aegis Network.

The government's motivation is the same as other bodies who have pulled their ads from YouTube — the possibility of advertising appearing alongside offensive content, the report said.

The Australian government will also reportedly continue asking Google for updates on the matter, particularly on the measures it will take or has taken to "mitigate risks."
