HSBC gender pay gap increases

Female employees at HSBC Holdings PLC were paid 61% less on a mean hourly basis than their male counterparts in 2018, the biggest difference among U.K. banks, according to data published by the U.K. government.

The average pay gap in the U.K. across sectors is about 17%.

HSBC's pay gap has worsened since 2017, when it was 59%.

The latest 61% figure implies that, on a mean hourly basis, female employees at HSBC received just 39 pence for every £1 earned by male coworkers. Women's median hourly rate is 30% lower than men's.
