Report: Alphabet's Waymo seeks external investors

Alphabet Inc.'s self-driving unit Waymo LLC wants outside investors such as Volkswagen AG to finance the company, tech industry website The Information reported March 11, citing a directly informed source.

According to the report, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Jaguar Land Rover Ltd., which already produce cars for Waymo, are also seen as potential investors.

Alphabet did not immediately respond to a request for comment from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

In February, the automotive alliance of Renault SA, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. denied reports that it plans to collaborate with Waymo on an autonomous car project.
