Mall's permit for Sun Hung Kai, Henderson plot in Hong Kong renewed amid losses

A temporary shopping mall's permit to rent a Hong Kong land parcel owned by Sun Hung Kai Properties Ltd. and Henderson Land Development Co. Ltd. near the Shenzhen border was renewed by town planners for three more years, The (Hong Kong) Standard reported, citing Radio Television Hong Kong.

The San Tin Shopping Centre, also known as The Boxes, is leasing the developers' property for a nominal fee of HK$1, according to the Sept. 7 report.

The three-year renewal of the mall's lease for the 420,000-square-foot land plot was renewed despite an earlier report of the South China Morning Post, which cited project advocate and lawmaker Wong Ting-kwong as saying that the shopping center logged HK$18 million in losses over the past nine months.

The pop-up shopping complex made entirely of cargo containers is home to tenants including Bonjour, food chain 759 Store and fashion company G2000, the Sept. 5 report added.
