Report: SoftBank mulls $1B investment in US firm WeWork

SoftBank Group Corp. is considering an investment worth over $1 billion in New York-based shared-office space firm WeWork, The Wall Street Journal reported Jan. 30, citing people familiar with the matter.

The deal would be among the first by SoftBank's new $100 billion technology fund. Any deal, however, would not be made before the completion of the tech fund, which is expected to take place in mid or late February.

SoftBank reportedly considered investing in WeWork in the past, but withdrew. WeWork has been valued at $17 billion in 2016, according to the report.

The Journal also mentioned that SoftBank recently met with Uber Technologies Inc., although no further details were reported.

SoftBank and WeWork reportedly declined to comment.
