Jinchuan Group to double copper, cobalt output from Africa, CEO says

Jinchuan Group International Resources Co. Ltd CEO Gao Tianpeng said May 17 that the company will double its African copper and cobalt output capacity over the next two to three years, Reuters reported.

Its current annual capacity is about 50,000 tonnes of copper and 5,000 tonnes of cobalt.

The company operates the Ruashi copper-cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Chibuluma South mine in Zambia. The mines are held by its Metorex Pty. Ltd. unit in South Africa, which produced 42,512 tonnes of copper and 4,638 tonnes of cobalt in 2017, Reuters added.
