Electricité de France SA announced Sept. 30 that it shut down the 2,000-MW coal-fired Cottam power plant in Nottinghamshire, U.K.

The company has been planning the shutdown of the facility for the past two years. The U.K. government plans to close its coal-fired power facilities by 2025.

The facility was commissioned in 1968 and has produced 500 TWh, according to a Sept. 30 news release.
