FERC approves InterGen to divest Mexico assets

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on March 5 granted InterGen NV authorization to sell ownership stakes in several subsidiaries and assets to El Aguila Holdings BV.

Post-transaction, El Aguila will own a 100% indirect interest in InterGen Energy Solutions LLC and Baja California Power Inc., as well as a 50% stake in Energía Sierra Juárez U.S. LLC, which owns Energía Sierra Juárez U.S. Transmission LLC.

IEnova, majority-owned by Sempra Energy, owns the remaining 50% stake in Energía Sierra Juárez, which is not a part of the transaction.

InterGen Energy Solutions sells power, capacity and ancillary services from InterGen-owned plants in northern Mexico into the California ISO market. Baja Power owns a transmission line that feeds electricity into CAISO from those northern Mexico power plants. Energía Sierra Juárez U.S. LLC sells the output from a 156-MW wind farm in northern Mexico to San Diego Gas & Electric Co.

El Aguila is owned by various partnerships organized under the laws of England and Wales, including Actis LLP. (FERC docket EC18-46)
