Short bettors flee TerraForm Power, pile into Pattern Energy

Pattern Energy Group Inc. had the biggest jump in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered power and gas companies between Feb. 28 and March 15.

The company saw short interest increase 126 basis points to 8.33% of shares outstanding at the end of the period.

TerraForm Power Inc. took the top spot on the list of power and gas companies with the largest drops in short interest in the first half of March. The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to shares outstanding fell 88 basis points to 9.58% as of March 15.

Spark Energy Inc. topped the list of most shorted power and gas companies between Feb. 28 and March 15. The company saw short interest rise 13 basis points to 41.33% of shares outstanding.

Peabody Energy Corp. was the most shorted coal company between Feb. 28 and March 15. The company saw short interest grow 26 basis points to 19.64% of shares outstanding.
