Sweden-based payments services firm Klarna Bank AB (publ) said it wants to beef up its staff numbers by 1,000 within the next year, Reuters reported.

The company already employs some 2,000 people and is active in 14 countries.

The hiring spree will be across all areas of Klarna's business and markets but will have particular focus on engineering and product, a company spokesperson told the newswire.

Klarna booked an operating profit of 110 million Swedish kronor in the first quarter, with revenues totaling 1.34 billion kronor, according to the June 13 report.

As of June 12, US$1 was equivalent to 8.61 Swedish kronor.
