Ex-Nevsun CEO leads Waterton's 8 nominees to Hudbay board

Waterton Global Resource Management Inc. named Peter Kukielski as its bet to become Hudbay Minerals Inc.'s new CEO as the dissident shareholder named its eight nominees for election to the Canadian miner's 10-member board at this year's annual meeting.

Kukielski is a former CEO of Nevsun Resources Ltd. and held C-level positions at Anemka Resources Ltd., ArcelorMittal, Teck Resources Ltd. and Falconbridge Ltd.

The shareholder, which owns approximately 11.9% of Hudbay, also picked Richard Nesbitt, former CEO of TSX Group, to become Hudbay's independent chairman.

Kukielski and Nesbitt headlined Waterton's eight-person slate, which also includes Mike Anglin, David Deisley, Emily Moore, Daniel Muniz Quintanilla, Ernesto Balarezo and David Smith.

Waterton said Jan. 16 that it is calling for a board overhaul as Hudbay has underperformed due to the "culture of entrenchment" under the leadership of CEO Alan Hair and fellow board members Alan Hibben, Warren Holmes, Alan Lenczner and Kenneth Stowe.
