Iowa legislature advances workers' comp bill

The Iowa House of Representatives advanced a workers' compensation bill that would reduce shoulder injury benefits and decrease coverage for injuries related to pre-existing conditions, the Insurance Journal reported.

Republicans in the GOP-majority House said the proposal would fix a system that gives rise to too many lawsuits, while Democrats say the bill favors the interests of corporations and penalizes workers, the publication reported.

The measure will next go to the Republican-controlled Senate for consideration.
