Atos taps replacement after CEO's EU nomination

Information technology firm Atos SE tapped Elie Girard to head the company starting Nov. 1 after current CEO Thierry Breton was nominated to become France's next EU commissioner.

Breton will step down as Atos' chairman and CEO on Oct. 31. Atos said that it will separate the roles of chairman and CEO on Nov. 1, and that Bertrand Meunier will become the chairman of the company once Breton is confirmed to take his position as European Commissioner. Until that time, Breton will remain the nonexecutive chairman of the company.

Girard became Atos' deputy CEO earlier this year and has been CFO of the IT firm since February 2015. Girard will be replaced by Uwe Stelter as the next CFO of the company.

Breton is a former finance minister of France, and has been heading Atos since 2009. Under his helm, the company's annual revenue more than doubled — reaching €12.3 billion last year, according to Reuters.
