US PE firm Hellman & Friedman among potential bidders for stake in Euroclear

U.S. private equity firm Hellman & Friedman LLC is considering a potential bid for a stake in Brussels-based securities settlement company Euroclear SA/NV, the Financial Times reported, citing sources.

An offer could value Euroclear at as much as £5 billion, the report noted.

The sources said a deal may not materialize and there was no certainty a sale would take place, the FT noted.

U.K. private equity company CVC Capital Partners Ltd. and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC Pte. Ltd. are reportedly among potential bidders also looking to acquire a stake in Euroclear.

The Brussels-based securities settlement company earlier in 2019 mandated Goldman Sachs to explore potential options that would enable its investors to sell their stakes in the firm.
