Walmart supplier recalls lemonade over undeclared milk

Oklahoma-based Hiland Dairy is voluntary recalling its own brand of lemonade due to the presence of milk, a known allergen, that was not declared on the product label, according to an Aug. 30 notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Products subject to the recall are 81 units of one-half gallon Hiland Dairy Lemonade with UPC code 72060-00519-6 and sell-by date of Oct. 25, and 387 units of pint Hiland Dairy Lemonade with UPC code 72060-00524-0 and sell-by date of Oct. 20.

The recall was launched after Hiland Dairy learned of a potential issue, which was later confirmed after internal quality-control testing at its Chandler, Okla., facility.

The products were distributed to retail outlets across Oklahoma City; Wichita and Kansas City, Kan.; and Kansas City, Mo., including at select Walmart Inc. stores.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product, the FDA said.

The FDA said no illnesses have been linked to the products to date, but it advised consumers to discard the product or return them to the place of purchase.
