Dave McCurdy, the American Gas Association's president and CEO, plans to retire from his post in February 2019, according to a March 14 news release.
McCurdy, who has been with AGA since 2011, will spend part of his remaining tenure preparing for the association's role in hosting the World Gas Conference in June in Washington D.C. The conference is expected to draw 12,000 stakeholders interested in global gas issues.
The AGA board of directors has not yet chosen McCurdy's successor but plans to begin its search shortly, the association's release said.
"In my time here, we have helped the United States take its rightful place as a leader in the global natural gas industry, made significant commitments to the safety and security of our communities and delivered unparalleled value to our members," McCurdy said in a statement. "I am confident that I will be leaving this organization better than I found it, with a positive, results-oriented culture and staff that a new leader will be able to rely on as they build for the future."
AGA represents over 200 local gas delivery companies, which serve about 95% of the roughly 74 million residential, commercial and industrial natural gas customers in the U.S.
Prior to joining AGA, McCurdy spent four years as the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers' president and CEO. During the eight years before that, he served as president and CEO of the Electronic Industries Alliance. McCurdy also represented Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 until 1995.
