FirstEnergy Pa. utilities seek bids for solar alternative energy credits

FirstEnergy Corp. utilities Pennsylvania Power Co., Pennsylvania Electric Co., and Metropolitan Edison Co. are seeking to purchase 120,500 solar photovoltaic alternative energy credits, or SPAECs, annually over a two-year period.

The request for proposal process will take place in January and February, with qualifying applications due by Feb. 5 and bids due by Feb. 27. Bidders may offer to sell tranches of SPAECs, with each tranche representing a commitment to sell 500 SPAECs yearly for a two-year period, starting in 2019.
