South Jersey Gas Co. received approval from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for the second phase of its infrastructure investment program for system reliability and preparation for severe weather events.
The second phase of the South Jersey Gas Storm Hardening and Reliability Program would involve four system enhancement projects along the coast of southern New Jersey and would cost about $100 million, according to a May 22 news release.
Under the program, the South Jersey Industries Inc. utility subsidiary would install safety devices to shut off gas flow automatically when the line breaks, along with other reliability improvement initiatives. The approved program would run for three years.
The first phase of the program ran from July 2014 to August 2017, under which South Jersey Gas replaced 92 miles of coastal infrastructure.
