Rainbow exports first rare earths concentrate from Gakara project

Rainbow Rare Earths Ltd. reported its first shipment of 25 tonnes of rare earth concentrate from its Gakara project in Burundi by road to Mombasa, Kenya.

The company said Dec. 5 that it is targeting a production rate of 5,000 tonnes per annum by the end of 2018.

Rainbow started ore mining at the project's Gasagwe pit in September and holds off-take agreements for up to 10,000 tonnes per annum of rare earth concentrate material.

Meanwhile, the processing plant at Kabezi is now fully constructed, and the final commissioning is expected to take about two weeks.

The plant will be fully operational before the end of December.
