Judge rejects BofA's motion to dismiss $542M FDIC claims

A federal judge has ruled against a request from Bank of America Corp. to dismiss a lawsuit from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which has demanded the company pay at least $542 million in assessments, according to Bloomberg News.

The two have sparred over whether unit Bank of America NA had in the past underreported counterparty exposures, resulting in smaller payments to the FDIC's deposit insurance fund. The FDIC has increased the total amount of money it is seeking over the dispute, tacking on $583 million onto its lawsuit last year.

Bank of America has denied the FDIC's allegations.
