Sartorius buys software biz, closes Essen acquisition

Sartorius AG, through unit Sartorius Stedim Biotech SA, acquired Swedish data analytics software company MKS Instruments AB, or Umetrics, from MKS Instruments Group for $72.5 million.

Umetrics, which has been cooperating with Sartorius for about five years, plans to generate full-year sales revenue of about $15 million in 2017, along with a "significant" double-digit operating profit margin.

Germany-based Sartorius also completed its previously announced acquisition of Ann Arbor, Mich.-based life science tools company Essen BioScience Inc. after gaining antitrust clearance.

Through the Essen acquisition, the Sartorius lab products and services division significantly expands its portfolio in bioanalytics.
