The European Commission will look into Apple Inc.'s proposed acquisition of U.K.-based music recognition app Shazam Entertainment Ltd. following a request from Austria, France, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Spain and Sweden.
"The Commission considers the transaction may threaten to adversely affect competition in the EEA," the commission said Feb. 6, adding that the deal "does not meet the turnover thresholds set by the EU Merger Regulation for mergers that must be notified to the European Commission because they have an EU dimension."
According to EC, Apple initially sought regulatory clearance in Austria, but the country referred the matter to the commission pursuant to the European Union merger regulation.
The commission said it will "ask Apple to notify the transaction."
