LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE's flagship Louis Vuitton brand is looking to open two new French workshops to meet growing demand for its leather goods and handbags, Reuters reported March 27.
The luxury brand, which just named Virgil Abloh as its new artistic director, reportedly wants the turnaround time of internal orders for handbags to be reduced from two weeks to within one week. Faster production would help Louis Vuitton keep up with sales trends at its stores.
The brand plans to hire 500 workers for the two new workshops, which will be located in western France. The first is slated to open by July, and the other by early 2019.
At that time, Louis Vuitton will have 16 French leather workshops in addition to four workshops in Spain's Catalonia region and component production facilities in Portugal and Romania, according to the report. In the U.S., the label has two plants in California and another in the works in Texas.
