Panasonic to start refrigerator manufacturing in India

Japan's Panasonic Corp. on Feb. 5 said it will start to produce refrigerators in its newly built 14,000-square-meter plant in India starting in March.

The new plant was built at Panasonic Technopark in Jhajjar district in the north India state of Haryana. The plant already produces air conditioners, washing machines and televisions. The electronics company plans to produce 500,000 units per year and will launch the products in April.

Panasonic expects India's household appliances market to grow at a fast pace. With a capacity of 300 liters to 350 liters, the refrigerators will have a "Big Door Pocket" to hold spices and a "Fresh Safe Vegetable Case" that can store a large quantity of vegetables and keep them fresh.

These refrigerators, tailor-made for the Indian market, will utilize Panasonic's ECONAVI technology for energy efficiency.
