Eurozone annual inflation confirmed at 1.6% in December 2018

Annual inflation in the eurozone slowed to 1.6% in December 2018, down from 1.9% recorded in November 2018 and in line with Eurostat's flash estimate.

Energy inflation eased to 5.4% in December 2018 from 9.1% in the previous month, while services inflation remained unchanged at 1.3%. Food, alcohol and tobacco prices edged up by 1.8% from the same month a year ago, following a 1.9% year-over-year rise in November 2018.

Core inflation, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, stood at 1.0% in December 2018, unchanged from the previous month.

On a month-over-month basis, consumer prices also remained unchanged in December 2018, while core consumer prices rose by 0.5%.
