Orion Gold NL on Jan. 25 said recent diamond drilling on the Kantienpan zinc-copper property in South Africa confirmed the discovery of a new zone of high-grade zinc mineralization.
In October 2016, the company reported the identification of a new geophysical target located below historical drilling at Kantienpan, with drill testing planned.
Recent drill highlights include 2.05 meters at 9.93% zinc and 0.09% copper from a depth of 404.87 meters, within a larger 21.47-meter intersection grading 1.72% zinc and 0.24% copper, as well as 1.91 meters at 4.35% zinc and 0.32% copper from 404.12 meters.
Orion Gold noted that downhole electromagnetic surveys indicate that the strongest conductor is located between and slightly deeper than the zone of massive and disseminated sulfides intersected in recent drilling. Follow-up drilling is underway.
The company exercised an option to acquire a 50% interest in Masiqhame Trading 855 Pty. Ltd., which holds the prospecting rights hosting the Kantienpan deposit, and can increase its interest to 73%.
