French industrial production falls in January

French industrial production fell in January after a rebound in December 2017, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies.

Industrial output fell 2.0% for the month after gaining a revised 0.2% in December. Manufacturing industry output fell sharply during January, by 1.1% after shedding 0.1% in the previous month.

Mining and quarrying, energy, water supply and waste management production was down 6.7% in January due to mild temperatures, while construction industry output decreased by 7.6%.

In annual terms, output rose in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment goods, and transport equipment. For mining and quarrying, energy, water supply and waste management, production was down by 3.0% year on year.
