EDP Renováveis marks entry into Colombia with 492-MW wind projects

EDP Renováveis SA won contracts in an auction organized by the Colombian government to build two onshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 492 MW.

The contracts, which marks the EDP - Energias de Portugal SA subsidiary's entry into the Colombian market, involves the development and operation of the 212-MW Alpha and 280-MW Beta wind farms. The projects are expected to enter operations in 2022.

"With these projects, EDPR increases its worldwide footprint by entering a new country with a growing energy demand, strong wind resources and sustainable development of its renewable energy sources," the company said in March 19 news release.

EDP Renováveis is now seeking to secure long-term power purchase agreements with third parties to sell electricity produced by the projects.
