Chinese deputy propaganda minister to lead film bureau

Wang Xiaohui will lead China's National Film Bureau, Variety reported May 24.

Wang is expected to retain his position as deputy minister of the Chinese propaganda department. He started his career in the department in 1986 and served as deputy director of the Central Policy Research Office.

Fan Weiping was named deputy director of the State Administration of Radio and TV, Variety reported, while Zhuang Rongwen was made director of the National Press and Publication Administration.

The propaganda department now includes the State Press and Publication Administration, the National Copyright Administration and the National Film Bureau.

The appointments come amid a government crackdown on media, internet and social media. It previously moved the State Administration for Press Publishing Radio Film & Television under the propaganda department's control.
