Protesters blockaded Newmont Goldcorp Corp.'s Peñasquito gold mine in Mexico starting mid-day on Sept. 14 over water issues, protest leader Felipe Pinedo told S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Newmont-Goldcorp could not be immediately reached for comment.
Pinedo said about 500 people were at the Peñasquito blockade and that talks with government and Newmont-Goldcorp had yet to start. He said protesters had raised concerns over water quality.
Peñasquito has been shut down in the past over protests. Earlier this year Newmont-Goldcorp briefly suspended Peñasquito operations amid a blockade. It was also affected by protesters in 2018 and 2017.
