Tenaska seeks FERC approval to acquire Mass. gas-fired plant

Tenaska Energy Inc. has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to approve the purchase of the natural gas-fired, 289-MW Berkshire Power plant from EIF Berkshire Holdings LLC.

EIF Berkshire Holdings is 67% owned by Ares EIF Management LLC and 33% owned by John Hancock Life Insurance Co. The facility is located in Hampden County, Mass. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the application.

Under the transaction, Tenaska Hampden Partners LLC will purchase the controlling stake in the power plant. Tenaska Hampden is 51% owned by Tenaska Energy and 49% owned by Tenaska Energy Holdings LLC, according to a March 20 filing. (FERC docket EC18-74)
