Nuclear update: US output falls as Ginna unit shuts

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability retreated early March 9 to 90.59%, down from 91.26% on March 8 but still remaining above the 89.03% reported on the same day a year ago.

Pulling down total output was the loss of the R.E. Ginna unit in New York, which is owned by Exelon Corp. and EDF Group. The plant was reported offline for undisclosed reasons early March 9 after being pegged at 100% on March 8.

According to private sources, Dominion Energy Inc.'s North Anna 1 in Virginia may shut in the next few days for planned seasonal maintenance. The unit was at 93% power as of early March 9.

Including the aforementioned Ginna unit, nine power plants across the country are offline as of early March 9.
