Venezuela presidential election moved to late May

Venezuela moved its presidential election to the second half of May from April 22 after an agreement between the government and some opposition parties, Reuters reported, citing the country's election board.

The announcement follows a report that U.S. President Donald Trump's administration may impose fresh sanctions on Venezuela in an attempt to put more pressure on President Nicolas Maduro who is seeking re-election.

In addition, EU diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini warned Feb. 26 that the bloc was ready to respond if Venezuela fails to hold "credible elections."
