Whitaker is an executive director at Extra Special People.

Bridgeman, a former professional basketball player, is the president and CEO of Bridgeman Foods Inc.

Navatto, who will be based in New York, was senior vice president in capital finance at UMB Bank NA before he joined the company.

Baltimore, Md.-based Howard Bank promoted Katherine Koustenis to vice president, chief compliance officer and CRA officer.

Koustenis previously worked at First Mariner Bank as part of the bank's integration team.

Salinas, Calif.-based Pacific Valley Bank added Harry Wardwell to its board.

Wardwell was executive vice president at Rabobank.

Synovus Financial Corp. appointed Dake Madray corporate treasurer.

He joins from SunTrust, where he was the head of treasury portfolio management.

Madray succeeds Jody Lowery, who retired in 2019.

In accordance with the merger agreement between First Defiance Financial Corp. and United Community Financial Corp., the board of First Defiance Financial accepted the resignation of Robert Beach, Douglas Burgei, Thomas Herman, Barbara Mitzel and Thomas Reineke.

When the companies' deal closes, the board will be composed of seven current members — Donald Hileman, John Bookmyer, Terri Bettinger, Jean Hubbard, Charles Niehaus, Mark Robison and Samuel Strausbaugh — and six United Community directors — Gary Small, Richard Schiraldi, Marty Adams, Zahid Afzal, Louis Altman and Lee Burdman.

Boston Private, the corporate brand of Boston Private Financial Holdings Inc., appointed Allison Baird chief marketing officer.

Baird joined Boston Private in 2016 and was appointed senior vice president of products and solutions in 2019.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. named Timothy Fischer managing director and head of U.S. leveraged finance sales, effective Jan. 21.

Fischer joins from Deutsche Bank AG, where he was managing director of leveraged credit sales.

E*TRADE Financial Corp. Corporate Controller Brent Simonich will succeed retiring Chief Risk Officer Paul Brandow, effective Jan. 17.

Brandow will serve in an advisory capacity throughout the transition.

Simonich, who joined the company in 1999, most recently was corporate controller, principal accounting officer and CFO of E*TRADE Securities.

Adrian Stewart, executive vice president and head of Australia and New Zealand at Pacific Investment Management Co. LLC, will become head of client management for Asia-Pacific excluding Japan, Pensions & Investments reported.

Stewart will relocate to Hong Kong from Sydney, retaining responsibility for the company's Australian and New Zealand client-facing relationships.
