Exelon names CEO of utilities subsidiary; Tallgrass appoints president

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a weekly rundown of recent executive management, board and regulatory changes in the energy industry. The moves are listed by sector in reverse chronological order.


* Exelon Corp. said in a Dec. 5 SEC filing that Stephen Steinour will not stand for re-election during the company's 2020 annual meeting of shareholders. The company also named Calvin Butler senior executive vice president and CEO of its Exelon Utilities subsidiary, effective immediately, according to a Dec. 4 news release. Butler has held this role on an interim basis since Oct. 15, along with his role as CEO of regulated utility subsidiary Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. He takes over the role from Anne Pramaggiore, who retired amid investigations into Exelon's lobbying activities in Illinois. Carim Khouzami, senior vice president and COO of Exelon Utilities since 2018, will replace Butler as CEO of BGE.

* American Electric Power Co. Inc. was notified by Lionel Nowell III that he planned to retire from the company's board of directors, according to a Dec. 5 SEC filing. Effective Jan. 1, 2020, David Anderson, in place of Nowell, will take over as chairman of the audit committee of the board. Art Garcia, in place of Anderson, will take over as chairman of the finance committee of the board.

* Cleco Corporate Holdings LLC's Julia Callis will resign as chief compliance officer and general counsel of the company and subsidiary Cleco Power LLC, effective March 2020, according to a Dec. 5 SEC filing.

* WEC Energy Group Inc. elected Tom Lane as a board director, effective Jan. 1. Lane is vice chairman of Energy Capital Partners LLC and was previously a partner at the private equity firm from its inception in 2005 through the end of 2016.

* Ameren Corp. on Dec. 3 named Cynthia Brinkley to its board of directors, effective immediately. Brinkley was also appointed to the board's human resources and nuclear and operations committees. Brinkley currently serves on the board of Energizer Holdings Inc.

* Charlotte, N.C.-headquartered Toshiba America Energy Systems Corp. named Kentaro Takagi president and CEO, effective Dec. 1. Takagi succeeded Kenji Kano, who served in these roles since Dec. 1, 2017, and will now continue as chairman, according to a Dec. 2 news release. Takagi was the business unit head and marketing and business development executive for the thermal power services development, global marketing and planning division within Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corp.

Oil and gas utility/midstream

* Jeffrey Sylvester joined Chesapeake Utilities Corp. as senior vice president of its natural gas transmission and regulated distribution businesses, according to a Dec. 6 news release. Sylvester previously served as the vice president of Black Hills Corp.'s Nebraska gas operations.

* U.S. refiner PBF Energy Inc. on Dec. 5 said that Karen Davis was elected as an independent director, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Davis is currently a director of PBF Logistics LP and is a member of its audit and conflicts committees. PBF Energy indirectly owns the general partner and 48% of the limited partnership interest in PBF Logistics.

* U.S refiner Delek US Holdings Inc. on Dec. 4 appointed Richard Marcogliese to its board of directors, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Marcogliese is the principal of private consulting company iRefine LLC, executive adviser of Pilko & Associates LP and a director of Cenovus Energy Inc.

* Following an adjustment of position, Chinese integrated oil and gas company PetroChina Co. Ltd. announced that Liu Hongbin stepped down as a nonexecutive director, effective immediately. Liu also ceases to be a member of the board's investment and development committee. PetroChina said it will fill the vacancy as soon as it is practicable.

* National Grid PLC appointed Liz Hewitt as a nonexecutive director, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Hewitt will join the audit committee, nominations committee and the safety, environment and health committee, according to a Dec. 3 release. Hewitt currently serves as senior independent director and chair of the audit committee at Melrose Industries PLC and is also a nonexecutive director and chair of the audit committee at Novo Nordisk A/S.

* Tallgrass Energy LP named Matthew Sheehy president of the partnership, effective immediately. Sheehy previously held positions at Tallgrass, including senior vice president and chief commercial officer, before leaving in early 2018, according to a Dec. 3 news release.

* Weatherford International PLC said Dec. 2 that its board chairman, William Macaulay, died unexpectedly late last week. The oilfield services company has not announced any succession plans for Macaulay's position. Macaulay also served as the executive chairman of global private equity and infrastructure investment firm First Reserve Corp.

* Following the completion of an all-stock acquisition of Energy Hunter Resources Inc., Generation Hemp Inc.'s president and director, Corey Wiegand, resigned to focus on a career in the real estate sector. Gary Evans, chairman and CEO of Energy Hunter, will lead the combined entity as chairman and CEO.

* Australian independent oil and gas company Woodside Petroleum Ltd. appointed Goh Swee Chen a nonexecutive director, effective Jan. 1, 2020. Goh will be a member of the human resources and compensation, sustainability and nominations committees, according to a Dec. 2 news release. Prior to the appointment, Goh served as chairperson of Royal Dutch Shell PLC companies in Singapore from October 2014 to January 2019.
