Voltalia completes 2-GW transmission line in Brazil

Voltalia SA has completed a 2-GW transmission line for its Serra Branca cluster of wind projects in Brazil.

Completion of the new 500-kV cable will allow Voltalia to begin operations at its 163-MW VSM 1 and 128-MW VSM 2 wind farms, ahead of initial forecasts.

The company said on Sept. 3 that it now expects the first turbine to generate power in November and the last turbine in mid-2020.

Electricity generated from the wind farms will be sold in the spot market in 2019 and through short-term contracts in 2020. Long-term contracts for the wind farms will begin between 2021 and 2024.

According to Voltalia, the Serra Branca cluster of wind farms now has a 2.4 GW potential.
