French current account returns to surplus in July in a 1st since January

The French current account returned to surplus in July for the first time since January on the back of an improvement in the country's balance of goods excluding energy, data from Banque de France showed.

In seasonally and working-day adjusted terms, France recorded a current account surplus of €200 million in July after a deficit of €1.1 billion in June.

Excluding energy, France's balance of goods booked a surplus of €1.1 billion in July following a deficit of €600 million in June. Overall, the French goods deficit narrowed to €2.4 billion in July from €4.2 billion in the previous month.

The balance of services totaled €2.3 billion.
