Entities controlled by Sherborne Investors acquire 5.16% stake in Barclays

Funds managed by activist investor Edward Bramson's Sherborne Investors Management LP acquired a 5.16% stake in Barclays Plc's issued share capital March 16, according to the U.K. lender.

Sherborne Investors said in a separate statement that it had invested £580 million of Sherborne Investors (Guernsey) C Ltd.'s capital in the shares and derivatives of Barclays and may increase or reduce its investment in the bank without further notice.

Barclays' share price rose by 3% on March 19, with Bramson having met with the lender's board members to discuss its annual results and outlook for the coming year, the Financial Times reported the same day.

The bank noted that Bramson had not made any specific demands, such as to gain a seat on the board or to change its strategy, according to the FT.
