Honda Motor Co. Ltd. on Sept. 10 said it will launch a number of charging and energy management solutions as part of its Electric Vision initiative for Europe, under which it aims to electrify 100% of its auto sales in the continent by 2025.
The Japanese carmaker outlined the details at the Frankfurt motor show, where it also unveiled the final mass production Honda e electric vehicle.
Among the solutions Honda plans to launch under this initiative are a power charger, an urban charging partnership with German renewable electricity solutions provider ubitricity, and a power manager prototype.
The power charger is planned to be an off-street charging system that allows full AC charging for Honda e vehicles in about 4.1 hours. The wall or pedestal mounted system has a maximum 7.4 kilowatts output for single-phase power supply or 22 kW for a three-phase power supply, the company said.
Meanwhile, Honda's partnership with Ubitricity will focus on installing on-street charging stations in urban environments.
In addition, the company plans to work with bi-directional charging specialist EVTEC to test a power manager prototype that can integrate electric vehicles with existing power networks, either to use the stored energy to power homes or to flow back energy into the grid during periods of high demand.
Honda said it expects to roll out its commercial energy services next year to coincide with the launch of the Honda e. It will initially launch these services in the U.K. and Germany but plan to expand to more European markets.
