Rakuten unveils digital service for fashion retailers

Rakuten Inc. on Sept. 17 introduced a new strategy called Rakuten Fashion, which it said will provide one-stop digital services to the fashion industry.

The Japanese internet and mobile technology company said that under the initiative, it will create a platform for services in the fashion sector including demand forecasting, merchandise planning, order management, payment systems and manufacturing and sales support.

"Through the new platform, Rakuten aims to support Japanese fashion to drive digitalization and strengthen e-commerce, contributing to further growth of the fashion industry," the company said.

Rakuten said it will relaunch its Brand Avenue site — which catalogs all its partner brands — as Rakuten Fashion from Oct. 1. The redesigned platform will have a simpler interface that allows brands to customize their pages and improve customer engagement.

In addition, Rakuten said it will deploy initiatives to boost the fashion segment of its online marketplace Rakuten Ichiba.
