X5 opens new distribution center in Russia

Russian grocery store operator X5 Retail Group NV said March 22 that it opened its first distribution center in Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic.

The 24,500-square-meter facility will serve X5's 260 Pyaterochka stores located in Bashkortostan. It is able to hold a range of food products, with five storage zones operating in different temperatures.

When operating at full capacity, the distribution center will be able to accommodate more than 360 local suppliers. Pyaterochka offers products from more than 50 Bashkortostan-based suppliers.

The facility created 140 local jobs to support continuous operations, which raises the total number of employees for Pyaterochka operations in Bashkortostan to 3,000.
